Quality Education: A Community Commitment

Who We Are

At the heart of a strong community is a strong school system. The HIGHLAND EDUCATION FOUNDATION was formed in 2015 by a group of Highland, Indiana residents who saw a need and an opportunity to foster and facilitate excellence in teaching and to enhance the learning experience of the students.

What We Do

The Highland Education Foundation provides opportunities for donors to give back to their schools by funding teacher and classroom grants for creative and innovative classroom activities, projects and programs beyond what tax dollars can accommodate. These grants encourage, support and recognize creativity, achievement and excellence within the teachers and students. What better investment than helping this Foundation in the never-ending goal of moving education forward!

Congratulations to Mrs. Steele and Mrs. Allison at Johnston Elementary! 🎉 Their grant proposal, “One School, One Book: Literacy Focused,” has been officially awarded. Through this initiative, all students, staff, and families will read the same book over the course of several weeks, creating a shared experience that strengthens literacy, family involvement, and school-wide community.

To launch the program, a special assembly will be held on the first day to unveil the selected book and build excitement. The book will be divided into chapters for families to read together at home, and each day students can participate in trivia questions based on the previous night’s reading for a chance to win fun prizes. Weekly activities will also be hosted to deepen students’ connection to the story and enhance the overall reading experience.

Congratulations to Mr. Glenn! 🎉
He has been awarded his unique grant, “Climbing Higher: Building Student Success Through Robotics.” This grant will impact students from 9th through 12th grade.

Through this support, future engineers, programmers, and problem-solvers will continue to be inspired. The grant not only prepares our high school students for competition but also strengthens their collaboration, creativity, and real-world STEM skills—benefits that will extend far beyond the robotics arena.

By covering essential and often costly components, the grant allows students and mentors to spend less time fundraising and more time on innovation, strategy, and skill development.

Students will gain problem-solving, teamwork, and technical skills that reach beyond robotic skills that will support them in future academic and career pathways across engineering, technology, and many other fields.

Congratulations to Mrs. Kraupner, who successfully wrote a grant in collaboration with Mr. Marich, Mrs. Makarauskas, and Mrs. Chintamani at our high school.

This grant will benefit more than 100 students in our engineering and physics courses. As part of the award, the team received a Van de Graaff generator, which will help students explore how static electricity is produced and how it can be discharged into various objects and devices.

In Physics/ICP: Students will investigate how static charge builds up on a conductor and examine different methods of discharging and using static electricity.

In engineering: Students will observe how static buildup can occur in a building and learn how lightning storms can impact a structure.

We are very excited for this unique opportunity for the highschool students.
