Congratulations to Mrs. Delariva!
Our High School German Teacher and World Language Department Chair has been awarded a very creative grant called, “The Language of Us.” This grant impacts over 1000 kids in grades 9 through 12.
The World Languages Department recently moved to a new location in our highschool, and the space currently lacks a visual or cultural identity that reflects its purpose.
The proposal includes the creation of a collaborative mural approximately 7.5 feet by 8 feet. The design will celebrate language learning, cultural appreciation, and the sense of community within the new World Languages area. Student artists will lead both the design and painting process.
This mural will turn a blank school wall into a lasting work of art that honors student creativity and diversity. It will serve as a visual celebration as well as an educational tool, sparking conversations about language learning, cultural understanding, and community-building. By highlighting the work of student artists, the project empowers them to see themselves as meaningful contributors to their school environment.
This project is innovative in both process and purpose. It engages students not only as viewers but as creators and decision-makers. Instead of commissioning a single design, the mural will function as a gallery wall built through a collaborative, student-driven process. Highland High School students will be involved at every stage, ensuring the final piece reflects their voices, perspectives, and artistic vision.
